Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar, a British American artist and a sitarist is best known for her songs. She was the first and youngest woman to be awarded a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Sitar Shankar was an Indian young sitar star. She is Ravi Shankar's student as well as his daughter. Born in London in 1982 and spent her early years shuttling back and forth from London as well as New Delhi. When she was only 13 the first time she performed at New Delhi took place. Later she moved to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha, who is only 17 years old, has had a successful performing and recording career. Since a while, she has been performing regularly with her father. The first album she released as a solo artist, Anourag, was released in 1998. In 2002, she debuted her Grammy award-winning album Live At Carnegie Hall. In addition to performing in all of the largest venues, she also has a long stage career. Anoushka Shankar's work isn't only limited to performing in music. Bapi The love of my life is an illustrated biographie she penned in 2002. It is a tribute to her father who died in the year 2000. Ravi Shankar. The year 2003 saw her appeared as a character in Dance Like a Man as a Bharat Natyam artist. Her career continues to grow and she will continue to do many great things in the coming years. Anoushka Shankar is an English born singer who travelled her early years split between London, Delhi and California. At the age of nine, she began her studies in music under her father, who made her debut with the sitar four years later, at his 75th birthday celebration in Delhi. As a part of her dad's band as they toured around the globe, Anoushka had a wealth of performances on stage at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens. She performed at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival as well as performing together with George Harrison. She was the only female recipient of the House of Commons Shield awarded by British Parliament in recognition of her musicianship and talent as a leading musician of music in Asian Arts.
