Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community in The West Island of Montreal is an example of a "sleepy" place. People who aren't familiar with this name believe it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. However it is the West Island includes everything westward from that city Lachine. Many times, it is credited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, the time she spent at the island was infrequent. Brugel grew in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Early ambitions were to be performing, but she was able to outgrow her dancing partners. In an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. After I outgrew my male counterparts I stopped. Many former dancers turn into acting which is what Brugel did. An instructor in drama at her high school encouraged Brugel in the direction she needed. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to try her hand at a character in the school's annual production. She was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual production. The show was a recipient of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed at the age of 20 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Over the past 20 years since, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions across the big and small screens receiving the most media attention, when she landed the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian cast member for the season 1 of the series and rarely seen.
